Implementing Your Civic Action Plan: A Retreat for Chief Academic and Student Affairs Officers and Civic Action Plan Implementation Teams

Edgewood College President, Dr. Scott Flanagan, welcomed the group

For the Civic Action Plan signatory campuses, CCWI hosted a free Civic Action Plan Implementation Retreat in Summer 2017, specifically designed for staff members from the chancellor’s / president’s offices, Provosts / Chief Academic Affairs Officers, Chief Student Affairs Officers, and select members of the campus Civic Action Planning Design Team.

Participants were able to network with other chief administrators from across the country who have leveraged their positions to advance community engagement projects on their home campuses.  This interactive workshop allowed campus teams to consider strategies for leveraging upper-level administrators to implement their plans.

Additionally, Nancy Thomas from the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education talked about how to create a campus climate inclusive of all viewpoints and that prepares students for lives of active citizenship.

CCWI also provided mini-grants to help signatory campuses move their implementation work forward.
