“Fueling for the Marathon” (a Carnegie application workshop)

January 25, 2019

$120

Indiana Campus Compact is hosting two events as a means of supporting institutions as they prepare their applications for Carnegie’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement. These events – “FUELING FOR THE MARATHON” workshops – are a part of Indiana Campus Compact’s ongoing Carnegie series “It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint: Applying for Carnegie’s Classification for Community Engagement in Higher Education.”

More information on these two events and the series can be found here. The cost for the events is $120 per campus team (up to 5 people) and includes a light breakfast and lunch. If interested, institutions would only choose one of the two dates to attend:

  • November 30, 2018 at Indiana University South Bend (South Bend, Indiana)
  • January 25, 2019 at Indiana University Bloomington (Bloomington, Indiana)

What is this event?

An off-site gathering for campus teams who are engaged in the process of organizing and compiling the application for the 2020 distinction.  This event will allow the time/space to dig deep, and it will provide the opportunity to connect with other institutions who are in the process of putting together their own applications. Indiana Campus Compact staff will be on hand for brainstorming/assistance throughout the day.

Why do it?

  1. Use this time to explore organizational concerns or issues that have already arisen as institutions compile or complete the application.
  2. Tap into group creativity (either from their own institutions, peer institutions, or with our staff at this event).
  3. To evaluate or correct their course. Sometimes the most effective thing a team can do is simply take a breath and a 1,000 foot view of how things are working.
  4. To create a collective vision of success for teams, their institutions, and, of course, earning this distinction. Day-to-day organizational life does not hold much time for big picture thinking. This event is a great way to align and design different parts of their committees or teams to have a common vision and strong commitment.

Interested in attending this event?

  • Institutions should express interest by completing our intake form. This will help us understand who will participate as well as their particular needs for the day.
  • Deadline for completing the intake form for the November 2018 event is Thursday, November 15, 2108.
  • Deadline for completing the intake form for the January 2019 event is Thursday, January 10, 2019.
