For immediate release: Today, Campus Compact of the Midwest announced the Engaged Scholars Initiative (ESI). The initiative will select and support a small cohort of engaged scholars and scholar-practitioners who can advance co-created knowledge, critically engaged pedagogies, institutional change, and collaborative action to address societal issues. Michigan State University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Minnesota are strategic partners for the initiative, providing critical leadership and in-kind and financial support.

Campus Compact is now seeking applications from scholars interested in participation. The initiative was also recently launched in the organization’s Eastern Region, with twelve scholars selected in late 2018. Curriculum has been developed by Campus Compact and the Swearer Center at Brown University.

“We are excited to support new waves of practitioner-scholars entering the field, as they contribute to community and civic engagement across the Midwest and the nation,” said CCWI Director, Trina Van Schyndel. “And we hope to see nominations across Wisconsin that reflect the diverse individual backgrounds and institutions in our state.”

Cohort members will commit to an ongoing learning and leadership process from May 2019 to August 2020. This experience includes a combination of in-person and online meetings, mentoring, and scholarly work. Applicants can be faculty, staff, or administrators. The initiative seeks to build a cohort of individuals of all identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and institutional types. Applications are due March 4, 2019.
