Seeking Community of Practice Facilitators

March 25, 2020

For several years, Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact has offered yearlong “Communities of Practice” to members staff, faculty, students, and partners. Cohorts meet monthly throughout the academic year by web conference to gain new ideas, connections and knowledge on a topic in the field through conversation and resource-sharing.

Each community is led by a member of our network with experience in the topic area. These facilitators are supported by Campus Compact staff and create goals and plans for the year, communicate with participants, curate resources, and lead meetings. Each facilitator will receive a $500 stipend for their time on the project.

The experience has provided meaningful professional development for participants and leaders. One past co-chair said, “As a facilitator, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience.  At every meeting, the group had deep and meaningful discussions that seemed to be thought-provoking for all participants.”

Applications are being accepted now through June 1, 2020, for 2020-2021 facilitators. Those interest can design a community related to one or more of this year’s themes:

  • Development of Community Engagement Professionals (these can be linked to Campus Compact micro-credentials, but do not have to be)
  • Faculty development, specifically related to community-engaged and/or civic learning pedagogies
  • Strategic approaches to community engagement across campus (can include preparing for and/or implementing Civic Action Plans)
  • Election engagement and/or civic learning
  • Creating campus/community cultures of dialogue across difference
  • Equity and inclusion in higher education and/or related to community engagement
  • Creating student-ready campus cultures and meeting student basic needs
  • Community-campus partnerships
  • Community-engaged research
  • Community engagement as a strategy for deepening student learning and improving retention
  • Colleges and universities as anchors and/or place-based engagement efforts
  • Critical reflection in practice
  • Community-engaged learning online

Applicants will be selected based on demonstrated commitment to leadership on the issue and experience facilitating collaborative group processes.
